Just yesterday I was rewatching Jenna Marbles' video where she was explaining why she's leaving youtube - a huge thing at the time, the impact of which people don't fully realize to this day, I think.

She began with "I feel like we are at a time where we are purging ourselves of anything and everything toxic..." - very prolific and depressing in retrospect. And she for herself took it like a champ. She explained her process, apologized but ultimately removed herself - perhaps the healthiest choice she could make for herself and I'm all for that for her.

I am not, however, for internet mobs forcing people out of the platforms. The time already showed that it results in only the good ones leaving. The douchebags thrive on it. Negative attention is still attention for those who only seek that. People who care will also care about the quality of attention.

In the long run, the mentality that you can only enjoy the art created by the perfect angels who never did anything wrong ever in their lives is killing the culture. It really does. It antagonizes the creators, it divides people and it leaves no room for growth.

I wish everybody could require the skill of "It makes me upset - I should check if it's actually real and if it is - I should ask myself - why does it bother me?" Asking those questions very often led me to find out that the presented information isn't actually real or it's more nuanced than I initially thought OR I get to be introspective rather than angry at someone else.

Don't trust everything you see online is a very simple rule, you would think. Why isn't it already the standard?

hii !! i love this question sorry it took me so long to respond i needed time to sit down n think LOL

starting with the popular books, i loved "they both die at the end", "the seven husbands of evelyn hugo", "we were liars" (can't remember how good the sequel is but i know it wasn't bad), "the silent patient", and "the song of achilles". i'm sure there are more but i can't remember at the moment.

in terms of popular series, all of leigh bardugo's books are chef's kiss 🤌 (i'm a shadow and bone lover, don't @ me), lunar chronicles was BEAUTIFUL and i read "out now" and "all out" which are collections of queer stories that are so good! for poetry i like rupi kaur's books but some might say that her poetry is very modernised and meant solely for instagram posts (which can't be argued with) so there's that. also percy jackson and the kane chronicles are great! loved those

in terms of less popular ones, "red rising" (trilogy), "unplugged" (trilogy), "the upside to falling", "if i stay", "the tenderness of thieves" and "i have no secrets" are all wonderful! they might be harder to find though? i've not got a good grasp on how popular books are though HAHA

the titles aren't very telling but i read most kinds of books, though lately i've noticed that my taste tends towards queer books, whether in mystery or fantasy or slice-of-life type books. it's a large range LOL

Alright. Now if you’ve never seen the series before you may be feeling a little… ??? about who everyone is. Here’s some info for those who feel dazed and confused! (Please note: most of the images below are gifs, however mobile sucks at downloading gifs online so they don’t exactly … gif. But I’m a bit lazy so search them up if you feel inclined. I recommend you do as they’re quite interesting.)

Also, fun tip!: COLORS and SYMBOLISM are very important to Mystery Skulls Animated. Chances are that if you see something in the series that is a specific color, it’s linked to the character associated with the color(s)!

This is Arthur Kingsmen. He’s a 22-year old mechanic who works at Kingsmen Mechanics, owned by his uncle. He’s part of a paranormal investigation group called The Mystery Skulls.

This is Vivi Yukino. She’s a 24-year-old bookseller who works at The Tome Tomb, owned by a mysterious person named Duet. She’s part of The Mystery Skulls gang and formerly close to Lewis.

This is Lewis Pepper. He was a 21-year-old cook and waiter at his family’s restaurant, Pepper Paradiso. He was part of The Mystery Skulls gang and formerly close to Vivi.

This is Mystery Yukino. He’s Vivi’s … dog??? (He’s actually a Japanese yokai called a kitsune) He’s The Mystery Skulls gang’s companion.

This is Reverb. (formerly known to the fandom as ???. Below is Murder Mystery, Reverb’s possession of Mystery.) He is a demon who’s the subject of intensive research by a mysterious person named Solo who works for an even more mysterious Station.

This is Shiromori. She’s a yokai created by Mystery.

This is Mushi Yukino, Vivi’s distant ancestor. She possessed ice magic.

These are Duet and Chloe, left to right. Duet is Vivi’s boss. (They/them) Chloe is Vivi’s coworker. (She/her) They both work at The Tome Tomb.

WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING HERE. (aka I explain the series’ events somewhat in case you don’t get it)

GHOST:

The Mystery Skulls are on one of their investigations, this time exploring a haunted/supernatural mansion. This mansion is Lewis’s, and he resides there. The gang soon finds this out, however as Lewis is in a ghostly form, none of them recognize him.

When Mystery looks back at the painting, the video cuts to a flashback. This is the inciting event.

During this flashback, a human Lewis drives the gang to a cave. This cave is where Reverb is. Reverb is the shadowy figure visible for a moment.

Reverb possesses Arthur and forces him to kill Lewis.

Lewis doesn’t realize Arthur was possessed, and as such, becomes a ghost.

Vivi witnesses this event, but some unknown force causes her to forget this, as shown in LOSING MY MIND.

Mystery transforms into a Kitsune and bites off Arthur’s arm to stop the spread of the possession.

In the present, Lewis offers Vivi his anchor (the golden heart attached to his chest. It is also called his locket.) but Arthur pulls Vivi away out of fear for her safety. His anchor breaks when Vivi drops it. Because of this, Lewis takes offense and gets angry, blowing up.

After that, Lewis watches them leave, the anger fading. He opens his anchor, revealing he’s the Lewis from the flashback and that he was very close to Vivi. He cries and fades away, his energy possibly spent from his outburst.

FREAKING OUT

During a shot in the beginning, it’s revealed that Reverb is still alive after the inciting incident. The only catch is… he’s crawling around in Arthur’s severed arm. During this shot, it’s clear that he wants to avoid Shiromori.

Shiromori uses magical flower petals to track down people - but she needs remnants of a person’s essence to do so successfully. (Kinda like a dog!) She’s trying to track down someone, but is unable to without enough essence. She finds the solution in Lewis’s anchor, which gives her access to the essence to grow flowers connected to Vivi, Arthur, and Lewis. … And Mystery.

Lewis is inside of the anchor, and he comes out of it — very angry because Shiromori is touching what is essentially a part of him!

This prompts Lewis to fight her, but fire beats plants any day… so Shiromori accepts that she needs to retreat in order to preserve Mystery’s flower. She blows on it to begin tracking him and leaves.

Meanwhile, Lewis ruminates for a moment. He crushes Arthur’s flower and takes Vivi’s and puts some of the petals in his anchor, restoring it to normal.

It’s revealed that Arthur has been looking for Lewis during the short clips of him during this video. He also has lasting trauma from what Mystery has done to him, but appears to have memory issues regarding the event.

Mystery discovers a petal from his flower and immediately recognizes what it is, showing that he and Shiromori have… a past.

When he gets hit by a truck, Lewis makes the split-second decision to possess it, changing it into a badass Dekotora-style truck and hitting the road—

HELLBENT

Arthur is doing routine maintenance on the van. Nothing new. (Fun fact, the van is his!)

When he goes into the van, that trauma mentioned before comes into play. He’s terrified of Mystery. He does bring himself to gently pet him though.

Arthur begins driving to the next location, no doubt somewhere else he believes Lewis is located.

The van stops due to paranormal interference. (Cough- Lewis- cough.) Arthur’s growing panic spikes after he sees Lewis’s awesome ride and he slams his prosthetic on the dash, causing it to short out and stop functioning.

The chase begins.

Shiromori locates the van and attacks. She is bloodthirsty.

All this drama culminates when Lewis knocks the van off of the road, causing it to crash at Kingsmen Mechanics.

This wakes up Arthur’s Uncle Lance, who grabs his shotgun in suspicion.

During the brief flashes of pictures, it’s shown that Shiromori is a yokai created from Mystery’s blood who lived in a “White Forest” with him. Mushi came to battle Mystery, and it can be inferred from previous and current events that he abandoned Shiromori for Mushi.

Shiromori makes a move to attack Mystery, but Vivi hits her with her bat. In Shiromori’s dazed state, Vivi looks similar to her ancestor, Mushi. This makes Shiromori VERY ANGRY.

Meanwhile, Lewis grabs an unconscious Arthur and throws him in the truck, which somehow has been supernaturally transformed into a pink version of the cave from before. The Deadbeats (yes, the little ghosts that follow around Lewis are canonically called the Deadbeats) corral Arthur to the side of the cave with the cliff, where Lewis hoists Arthur up, ready to finally exact his revenge.

Lewis reveals his human face to him, and that’s when Arthur realizes the ghost that’s been chasing him is none other than his “missing” best friend. The last thing he utters before Lewis drops him is simple — his name.

THE FUTURE

As Arthur falls to his death, Lewis regrets his decision to kill him. He begins to make the constructed spikes disappear, but he’s shot in the anchor by Lance first. This causes the entire construct to come apart, and Arthur lands safely inside a pile of boxes.

When Shiromori goes to attack Vivi, Mystery transforms into his kitsune form and bites his arm — which immediately stops her from attacking, as the smell of his blood is too enticing for her to care about Vivi anymore.

Mystery turns his head to tell Vivi to make a break for it, but instead she reaches out for her bat (that’s glowing with energy), causing her to find herself in a kind of spirit realm where she sees Mushi. Mushi reaches out, offering her hand, and Vivi reaches out in turn - we flash back to reality, and this motion is what causes her to summon the bat in her hands, now enchanted with deadly ice magic. Vivi immediately uses it to protect Mystery, and the power of the ice shows itself to be very effective against Shiromori.

Meanwhile, Arthur comes to and finds Lewis’s anchor. He takes it and looks inside, seeing the previous image of Lewis and Vivi. This shocks Lewis, as again — part of him is being touched — and as Arthur stares at it, it slowly changes to be a picture of the entire gang.

Lewis is obviously angry at his anchor being touched once again and snatches it from him. But when he looks inside, he too realizes it’s changed. And it surprises him. So much that he finds himself in tears.

Cut back to Vivi and Shiromori! They’re both battling it out intensely — and to no one’s surprise, ice also beats plants. (Sorry, Shiro.) Vivi has the chance to defeat Shiromori for good, but she decides not to, and walks away. … And Mystery does too.

Shiromori doesn’t accept this defeat.

Mystery’s heart literally breaks watching Shiromori land a devastating hit on Vivi. He lunges for one last attack and manages to get gravely wounded.

Vivi decides to go back on her previous decision and she strikes Shiromori with a killing blow.

Mystery watches his creation die — and Reverb takes this moment of weakness as the perfect chance to possess him.

… And that’s it! Video five is still in production so we all have to suffer on that cliffhanger!

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

I hate how often some (typically abled) people will go “well, if you can’t [get a specific support], then what?” when it comes to disabilities. As if it’s a ��gotcha” moment. And then act like you’re exaggerating when you answer that question honestly.

Disabled people often die from a lack of support. A lot of disability aids are not a luxury, but a basic need in order to live.

“Well what happens if—” people die. People hurt themselves. People hurt others. Disabled people don’t magically become abled if our needs aren’t met.

If a bedbound quadriplegic is caught in a housefire, and there’s nobody there to save them, they’ll probably die. They won’t magically become able-bodied out of sheer will.

If a nonspeaking/nonverbal autistic is denied access to alternative methods of communication, they’ll suffer in silence. They won’t spontaneously become capable of speech.

Disabled people are disabled all the time. Our disabilities don’t go away just because they’re inconvenient, or if we’re in danger.
